True love is putting someone else’s needs above your own

Have you ever wondered what it meant in genesis 2:21? When the Lord God caused Adam to fall into a “deep sleep”? The Hebrew word “tardemah” means deep sleep. It is used in other passages too. In Genesis 15 God caused Abram to fall into a deep sleep when God passed by him. In John 11 Jesus said Lazarus had fallen asleep. There is only one word for deep sleep in the Hebrew and it’s tardemah. Not sure if this is the same word that Jesus used but the point is, fallen asleep and deep sleep are mentioned throughout the Bible. So why did Adam have to be put into a deep sleep? He was sinless so I wonder if pain was experienced yet? Was this the first anesthesia? Don’t think so, but interesting. I think the term “deep sleep or fallen asleep” was used to signify the metaphor of death. I think it was to show for us today that husbands have to ” die to self” to serve their wife properly according to the Bible. Adam had to die to give her life. Jesus had to die to purchase his bride. Ephesians 5:25 said Jesus gave himself up for her. We know what that means. He laid down his life. Genesis 2:23 said Adam knew what happened and who she was. He also knew what her purpose was and he would never be complete without her. True love is putting someone else’s needs above your own.
